Battling overcrowded schools in Peoria Unified, officials consider bond for new school

Frank Eager, a Sunrise Mountain High School teacher of more than two decades, knows growth in the Valley all too well.

As a product of the Peoria Unified School District, he remembers when there were only four high schools serving the area. As a graduate of Foothills Elementary and Cactus High schools, he recalls when 83rd Avenue and Deer Valley Road had only stop signs and when there was no Loop 101, only Beardsley Road.

Eager, who also coaches the junior varsity girls basketball team and is the vice president of the Peoria Education Association, admits the Valley has always been synonymous with growth, but says the more recent explosion has been “pretty intense,” having a big effect on school capacities.
