Base facility names on lasting contributions by Arizonans

Posted

OPINION — Naming of public facilities should be reserved for people who have made lasting contributions to Arizona, preferably by folks that can be accurately described as Arizonans.

Charlie Kirk’s main accomplishment was establishing a nationwide group of folks with extremist philosophies, and made his money by humiliating young people in front of their peers in the stated interest of public good.

He was influential in national politics for about three years. His only contribution to Arizona was to base his student movement at ASU.

Kirk was a Chicago transplant with zero family history in Arizona. This is a knee-jerk reaction from a politician with no original political or civic agenda trying to get votes based entirely on emotion.

The idea itself is embarrassing and degrades the perception of Arizona on the national platform.
