Barriers, benefits to seeking a diagnosis of autism as an adult

Autism diagnostic services for adults needed

Thomas Kaufmann was diagnosed with autism in 2016.

Unlike many who received the diagnosis, Kaufmann wasn’t a kid. He was 30 years old.

Friction in his relationship at the time led to him reading about autism and then seeking a diagnosis. After a year together, Kaufmann’s partner was the first to point out he may have been on the autism spectrum. At the same time, she shared that she has Asperger’s Syndrome, listed along the spectrum of autism signified by having typical to strong verbal language skills and intellectual ability but having difficulty with social interactions.
