This is an example of finding a solution for a problem that may not necessarily exist.
There are more progressive communities finding new, more technology-driven solutions for public safety. I have come across a program that addresses the challenges with new thinking and technology. Drone First Responder is one example. Here is a link to one community that is using this with great success.
They modeled their program after two other successful programs in California. The benefits of the program are included in the link.
I believe this would be a much more efficient and cost-effective program to provide the support for pubic safety at a much lower cost. There are a number of other police departments across the nation looking to begin these types of programs.
Peoria should be a leader in innovative ways to solutions for issues in our community. I believe the helicopter will end up being a drain on our budget without measurable results to warrant the costs.
