MESA - Barbara Elayne Butterworth Galbraith beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, in Mesa, at the age of 73, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 22, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio to Dick Butterworth Shannon and Lucille Jackson. Known for her caring, honest, and strong-willed personality, she had a deep love for her family and the desire to open her heart to anyone in need. We will always remember her as an amazing woman who had the ability to accept friends as family. Throughout her life, many affectionately referred to her as 'Mom' because of the support and love she gave. Mom truly made everyone feel a part of her extended family. In 1954, Mom married Chuck Galbraith, later divorced. She lovingly worked as a Domestic Engineer to raise their three children. In 1973, she left Columbus, Ohio. Mom fell in the love with the Superstition Mountains and made Apache Junction her permanent home. She and her son started a Bail Bond business which she proudly owned until her retirement in 2001. Mom always had a distinct love for animals and was known to have many around her. She was especially fond of her hearing dog, Spuds, who helped give her independence and freedom. She loved the water and enjoyed swimming, fishing, and water sports. She was a collector of antiques and particularly cherished mementos from her great-grandfather's participation in the Civil War. Mom was also an active member of the Gold Canyon Church of Christ. Memorial Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the Gold Canyon Church of Christ. Mom is survived by her children, Chucky Galbraith, Bobby (Fara) Galbraith, Tammy (Tom) Pekelsma; grandchildren, Jason (Tony) Corrigan, Jennifer (Alex) Jackson, Nicole Galbraith, Michelle Pekelsma, Shannon (Lane) Herbert, Ashley Galbraith; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mom, you will be greatly missed. We love you!
