Banner MD Anderson named ‘Center of Excellence’ for imaging

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner Gateway Medical Center, 2946 E. Banner Gateway Drive in Gilbert, recently was designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
This represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize high-quality imaging practices and diagnostic treatment, according to a release.
It includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including the professional staff, technology, policies and procedures the organization follows — and superior patient care.
“Our patients entrust us to provide excellent care, and we’re so proud of our team for their diligent focus to do that every day,” Tonya Brownell, medical imaging director at Banner MD Anderson, said in the release. “This is such an important designation, showing we provide the highest levels of imaging quality, safety and care by surpassing standard accreditation requirements.”
In order to receive the distinction, facilities must be accredited by ACR in all modalities they provide, and in those ACR offers an accreditation program. Another requirement is to participate in the Dose Index Registry and General Radiology Improvement Database, as well as Image Wisely and Image Gently.
Founded in 1924, ACR is one of the largest and most influential medical associations in the U.S. Its resources are devoted to making imaging and radiation therapy safe, effective and accessible to those who need it. Its 38,000 members include radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, interventional radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians.
