Banner Health has announced changes to its board of directors beginning Sept. 1.

Anne Mariucci, current vice chair of the board, will succeed Quentin Smith as chair. Dr. John Koster will assume the role of vice chair. Three new board members have been elected to join the board. The new members are Sara Dial, Dean Harrison, and Rick Myers.

“I want to personally thank Quentin Smith for his exemplary leadership of our board as chair for the past two years,” Peter S. Fine, Banner Health CEO, stated in a press release. “Quentin has served on the Banner Health board since our organization’s inception, and he has led with wisdom and integrity during a transformative time for Banner and challenging years for our industry. I’m thrilled to welcome Anne into the role.”

In addition to serving as vice chair on the Banner Health Board of Directors, Mariucci currently serves on the boards of four publicly traded companies, according to a press release. She previously served an eight-year term on the Arizona Board of Regents, during which time she was chair and held numerous leadership roles, including University of Arizona Health Network board member prior to its merger with Banner Health in 2015.

Dial is a noted Arizona business leader. She is founder, president and CEO of Sara Dial & Associates, an economic development consulting firm specializing in site selection, economic and community development, government relations and executive coaching. She is the lead independent director at Grand Canyon Education, Inc., former director at WillScot Mobile Mini Holdings Corp. and she served on the BBVA Phoenix Advisory Board for 20 years until it was acquired by PNC Bank in 2021.

She has served on more than 25 nonprofit boards in Arizona and has been recognized for her business and philanthropy with numerous honors and awards.

Harrison is the executive chair of the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare Board of Directors, the primary teaching affiliate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He joined the health system in 1998 and served as its fourth chief executive officer for over 16 years. During that time, he was instrumental to the formation, growth and increasing recognition of Northwestern Medicine as a leading integrated academic health system anchored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Group, the press release stated.

In addition, Harrison serves on the boards of directors of the Center for Medical Interoperability, Executives’ Club of Chicago, Illinois Hospital Association, Navy Pier, Northern Trust, Ravinia and World Business Chicago.

Myers is a Tucson businessperson, civic leader, advocate, and former chair of the Arizona Board of Regents. He was a research and development vice president with IBM and CEO of a venture backed technology startup. His projects include chairing efforts to develop a 20-year transportation plan and tax for southern Arizona and working with the Food and Drug Administration and the pharmaceutical industry as part of the Critical Path Institute, to modernize approaches to drug development.

He has served on the Tucson Airport Authority, Southern Arizona United Way board, chaired the United Way community campaign, the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, and chaired the Science Foundation Arizona and Earn to Learn Boards of Directors.

“Our new board members bring a wide range of experience to Banner, and we are very fortunate to have access to their knowledge and insights,” said Fine.

With these transitions, the board will say farewell to Steve Lynn and Marc Schmittlein.
