Ballet Arizona's “Juan Gabriel,” the ballet/rock concert choreographed to the video of the artist's 1990 Bellas Artes performance, returns to Phoenix Symphony Hall.
Inspired by the "worldwide outpouring of grief following Gabriel's death in 2016, artistic director Ib Andersen assembled an international team to add another dimension to his songs,” according to a release announcing the Oct. 26-29 performance dates.
Jacob Pinholster, dean of ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, prepared the videography. Carla Fernandez of Mexico City designed the costumes, which incorporate the work of indigenous Mexican artisans.
