Bald Eagle breeding season has begun

Please observe all restrictions at Lake Pleasant, other sites

In the 1960s there were only around 400 known nesting pairs of the Bald Eagle — the national bird of the United States — in the lower 48 states.

But after years of protection, the species was removed from the list of threatened or endangered species in 2007.

Now they are thriving in Arizona, where there are 93 eagle breeding areas, including nests in northern Peoria.
