Back to school — but is it safe? Valley education officials set return dates

As some local school districts plan to reopen for in-person instruction at area campuses, federal officials warn young children can carry and transmit the novel coronavirus without ever showing symptoms.

Following guidance from state health officials, school districts across the Valley last week announced plans to bring students and school employees back, with some returning this week or next, and others later.

Officials at the Peoria Unified School District announced in-person instruction would resume immediately for up to half its students, since the district has reached the benchmarks set out by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
