Back from Olympics, Mercury withstands comeback to beat Atlanta 92-81

In its first game back from the Olympic break, the Mercury squandered a large lead against a team at the bottom of the standings, but never gave up the lead, beating the Atlanta Dream 92-81 Sunday in the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Five Mercury players scored in double figures including guard Skylar Diggins-Smith with a team-high 19 and guard Sophie Cunningham who had a season-high 17 off the bench.

The win brings Phoenix back to .500 (10-10), and the Mercury sit at sixth in the standings. Atlanta (6-14) is 11th in the 12-team league.
