Baby found dead in apartment in north Phoenix

Officers conducting a welfare check found a baby dead in a north Phoenix apartment on Thursday, Phoenix Police said Friday in a release.

According to the release, at about noon on July 16, officers were asked to conduct a welfare check at an apartment near 600 East Mission Lane by medical staff from a local hospital.

The medical staff reported that a woman stated she had given birth at the apartment earlier that morning and that the baby was still there.
