Avondale resident accused of shooting man selling vehicle

An Avondale man is in custody on suspicion of shooting someone who was selling his vehicle on OfferUp.

Servino Otero Lopez, 20, faces charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, attempted murder, disorderly conduct, theft and armed robbery.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Avondale police responded to reports of a stolen vehicle and shooting in the area of Dysart and McDowell roads.

Avondale resident accused of shooting man selling vehicle

An Avondale man is in custody on suspicion of shooting someone who was selling his vehicle on OfferUp.

Servino Otero Lopez, 20, faces charges of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, attempted murder, disorderly conduct, theft and armed robbery.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Avondale police responded to reports of a stolen vehicle and shooting in the area of Dysart and McDowell roads.

Police said a victim had agreed over OfferUp to sell his vehicle for $26,000 to Mr. Otero Lopez. The two met at a nearby Walmart, where Mr. Otero Lopez asked to test drive the vehicle. The victim agreed if Mr. Otero Lopez stayed in the vehicle.

According to records, the victim believed Mr. Otero Lopez tried to leave the parking lot, but he told the victim to chill and parked the vehicle.

The victim tried to turn the vehicle off, during which Mr. Otero Lopez allegedly pulled out a weapon and demanded the keys.

The victim ran from the vehicle and heard gunshots. He also felt pain his stomach, due to a gunshot wound. He went to a gas station to call for help, records state.

The victim was taken to the hospital for a single gunshot to the abdomen.

Police obtained evidence leading them to identify the suspect as Mr. Otero Lopez.

Police found Mr. Otero Lopez in the area of McDowell and Litchfield roads Wednesday afternoon and arrested him.

According to records, Mr. Otero Lopez initially told family members he was with a “friend who did something bad,” but he later told police he had planned to steal the victim’s vehicle in order to visit family in Mexico.

He was jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond with court dates Dec. 19 and 23.
