Avondale police are investigating after a man was found stabbed to death at a home.
Around 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, Avondale police responded to a home near Buckeye Road and Avondale Boulevard for a welfare call for service.
During the investigation, police located Gustavo Reyes Sr. with stabs wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also at the home was Gustavo Reyes Jr., who turns 29 Tuesday, Jan. 14. He was arrested and booked into jail on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Mr. Reyes Jr. allegedly told police he had killed his father with a knife, which he then put in the dishwasher, records state.
Police said there are no other outstanding suspects.
A motive in the stabbing remains unknown. Court documents list Mr. Reyes Jr. as being mentally disturbed.
Mr. Reyes Jr. was jailed in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bond.
