The city of Avondale broke ground Monday on a significant portion of The BLVD, a new development along Avondale Boulevard just south of Interstate-10 and the city’s booming health-tech corridor. City officials were joined by J2 Engineering and Willmeng Construction for a virtual groundbreaking on several water features in The BLVD’s central plaza, which will include lakes, a koi pond, splash pad and pedestrian bridges for the new mixed-use development being developed to the tune of $4.8 million.
“This project sets the tone for the exciting development that will occur within this vital economic corridor in the months and years ahead,” said James Murphy, CEO of Willmeng.
According to Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise, The BLVD has been years in the making. The city council had plans for the stretch of Avondale Boulevard prior to the 2008 recession before ideas had to be placed on the backburner.
