Autonomous vehicle program expanded in Sun City

New stops added in community

The autonomous vehicle public transit program in Sun City is catching on.

Started in April, the program had a specific route using North Del Webb and North Boswell boulevards and North 103rd and West Grand avenues. There were 10 stops along the route where passengers could be picked up and taken to another location within the route. Passengers have to call in advance to be picked up. The Sun City program uses two hybrid vehicles. Riders will need to get to one of eight stopping points along the route. The program runs 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Riders will access the shuttle to set up on-demand rides through a Via app using AI-based booking and intelligent routing software, according to Allie Potter, Skyya Public Relations account manager.

The program was expended to include seven new stops. These additions were made at the request of members of the Sun City community, according to Potter.
