UPDATE: Autonomous transit arrives in Sun City

Sun City latest community for testing

The idea of driverless vehicles is spreading fast, and Sun City, an unincorporated age-restricted community, will get a taste of the new technology.

Officials will conduct a soft launch of a shuttle program Monday, April 24, with a more formal launch in the planning stages, according to Chris Barker, a consultant contacted by Northwest Valley Connect officials.

“Sun City is well set up for autonomous vehicles,” said Barker, who is not employed nor consulting with May Mobility, the project provider. “There are wide streets and they are well maintained.”
