ASU student designs custom shoes for Phoenix mayor’s speech, athletes and celebrities

The custom Phoenix-themed shoes worn by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego for her State of the City speech on Tuesday featured a painting of Camelback Mountain on one shoe, the downtown Phoenix skyline on the other. There were also cacti painted on other side of each shoe and a phoenix was featured on one heel and “Phoenix Is The Future” on the other heel. The shoes were painted by Arizona State University senior Kennedy Rettew.

What do Simone Biles, Marlon Wayans, Cam Skattebo and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego have in common?

It’s gotta be the shoes.

During her State of the City address on Tuesday, Gallego wore custom Phoenix-themed sneakers painted by Arizona State University senior Kennedy Rettew.
