ASU, Starbucks deal grows its reach

Free scholarship program has seen 6,000 graduates

When Starbucks launched its partnership with Arizona State University in June 2014, it was hailed as a first-of-its kind employee benefit set to increase access to higher education.

Nearly seven years later, the Starbucks College Achievement Plan — which allows Starbucks employees to enroll in ASU Online undergraduate degree programs — boasts more than 17,000 enrollees. This May will see SCAP’s largest graduating class when 700 students earn their degrees. It’s the largest graduating class for the partnership to date.

“Starbucks believes in creating meaningful opportunities for our partners,” said a Starbucks spokesperson, referring to the term the coffee giant uses for its global workforce. “By giving access to a full, four-year college education, the Starbucks College Achievement Plan provides them a critical tool for lifelong opportunity.”
