ASU police takes pledge to recruit more women

Will increase female recruitment to 30%

The Arizona State University Police Department is taking a big step to improve the gender disparity in its force.

The ASUPD has signed on to the 30x30 Initiative, a program based on decades of research that seeks to increase female recruitment at agencies across the country to 30% by the year 2030. The campus police department is one of a handful of university law enforcement agencies and local Arizona police departments to take the pledge.

ASUPD currently has 38 women serving at the department in both civilian and sworn status out of 148 employees, approximately 25.7% of the force, according to spokesman Adam Wolfe.
