Arizona State University will recognize more than 2,100 military-connected students during spring commencement May 11, highlighting the university’s continued commitment to supporting those who serve and their families.
The graduates include 1,056 veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard, Reservists and 912 family members attending school on the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
In addition, 94 ROTC cadets from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force will graduate and commission as officers, marking the start of their military careers.
The university provides dedicated support services, academic programs and community-building opportunities through the Pat Tillman Veterans Center and the Office for Veteran and Military Academic Engagement.
“These graduates represent the very best of ASU’s commitment to service, leadership and impact,” said Shawn Banzhaf, executive director of the Pat Tillman Veterans Center. “Whether they have worn the uniform themselves or supported someone who has, they bring unique perspectives and experiences that strengthen our university and the communities they will go on to serve.”
Several ceremonies and events throughout commencement week will celebrate this community, including the Pat Tillman Veterans Center Veterans Honor Stole Ceremony, where student veterans are recognized for both their academic achievements and military service.
During the event, veterans are presented with a stole for their branch of service, which can be worn over academic regalia during graduation ceremonies.
Supporting a military-affiliated student population of more than 23,400, ASU has consistently been recognized as a top institution for those in uniform and their family members.
Military-connected graduates will go on to careers in public service, business, technology, engineering, education and beyond, continuing a tradition of leadership both in and out of uniform.
