ASU cancels Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s on-campus event

Arizona State University has canceled U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-Mich.) scheduled speaker event at the Tempe campus today, which was to center on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Tlaib, who is the sole Palestinian voice in Congress, was censured by her fellow representatives on Nov. 8 for her views on the Israel-Hamas war, specifically in regard to the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, the militant organization controlling Gaza, and the resulting counter attacks.

Organized in part by the Arizona Palestine Network and other local groups, the representative was scheduled to give a talk titled “Palestine is an American Issue,” at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at ASU’s Neeb Hall.
