ASU announces $5.5 million grant for nursing students

Posted

Arizona State University announced this week that a new Arizona Department of Health Services grant for $5.5 million will help get 104 new nurses into Arizona hospitals by summer 2024.

The new grant stipulates students awarded this scholarship must commit to staying and practicing in Arizona for four years, which will have a direct impact on families in the community.

“Stepping up to care for the communities we serve is part of the bedrock of who we are as a university,” ASU President Michael Crow said. “We appreciate the state’s confidence and investment in our ability to simultaneously support the success of our students while tackling Arizona’s urgent nursing shortage.”

The move comes as Arizona ranks in the top 10 in terms of its shortage of nurses and multiple groups are attempting to get more people into the field.
