Housing aid, meal programs help people battle COVID

Surprise City Councilman Ken Remley fought back tears as he recounted the joy of one of his constituents receiving housing aid from the city.

The 55-year-old man Mr. Remley spoke about at the Dec. 15 Surprise City Council meeting had three adopted grandchildren to look out for. But unexpectedly he suffered a stroke.

“He called me the other day to thank me for getting him the money,” Mr. Remley said, as his eyes welled up. “And I said, ‘No. Thank you.’”
