Ask the Editor: Who can and can’t be appointed to Scottsdale boards, commissions?

Last month, Scottsdale City Council nominated a number of local residents to volunteer positions — one of which garnered mild attention because of his personal relationship to Mayor David Ortega.

But, there are no rules to prevent non-familial people who know Scottsdale’s elected officials personally from serving.

On May 18, Scottsdale City Council appointed and reappointed people to 11 different boards and commissions, which are made up of volunteers who study and provide recommendations to the City Council.
