As temperatures heat up, so do encounters with rattlesnakes

Hissing, buzzing and rattling are all sounds Valley residents should keep their ears open for as temps climb into spring.

During the past few weeks, the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary has started to receive calls from residents to help remove unwanted rattlesnakes, said Dan Marchand, the sanctuary’s executive curator.

The Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary removes about 750 to 1,000 rattlesnakes each year, he said. He expects calls to go up to 25 per day for snake removals, he said.
