Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of teachers have adjusted their methods to maintain safety in a new educational age. Now, as restrictions lighten and students have fully transitioned back into in-person learning, the nation faces a different obstacle: teacher shortages.
At Chandler Unified School District, however, teachers have maintained a strong presence in the hiring atmosphere. Kathleen Jett, assistant director of recruitment and onboarding, said there are only 12 openings for certified teachers across the district.
“Recruiting reaches the national level,” Jett said. “We get a lot of people from out of state who say they want to work for us. I think our reputation as a district has helped us a lot to have a fairly strong base of applications.”
