Brutalized by the sun: As excessive heat warning continues, heat-related injuries rise in Valley

The Valley’s weather is taking a toll on residents’ health

As the Valley began its summer months, an excessive heat warning that started at the first of the month has been extended through July 21. This year’s temperature record for Phoenix is expected to break multiple records before the summer ends.

On July 15, Phoenix reached 118 degrees, breaking the 1998 record of 117, according to the National Weather Service. The Valley also is breaking a string of days with temperatures above 110 degrees that has stood for nearly 50 years.
