East Valley city looks looks for potential roundabout artwork

One or more sculptures, metal plants and solar lighting could be placed in the middle of the Arizona Department of Transportation roundabout at State Route 88 and Superstition Boulevard, the Apache Junction Public Art Commission was told recently.

The city has been unable to pin down ADOT on the specifications of any art or other objects that could be placed on a 72-foot diameter area, Associate Planner Erika Hernandez said during the commission’s Feb. 10 meeting.

“Now I have spent quite a few hours trying to get a hold of ADOT and still have not received a response, but I’ll still be working on that and hopefully we can coordinate with them on the rules and regulations for what is allowed for the roundabout,” she said.
