Art exhibit ‘Fields of Color’ coming to Phoenix

Two artists display works at Olney Gallery

A new art exhibit dedicated to “Fields of Color” is opening in Phoenix.

The works of artists Nancy Breiman and Sarah Hansegard will be on display from Monday, June 3 through Monday, July 1 at Olney Gallery at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St., in downtown Phoenix.

Breiman is an oil painter and uses a bold color palette with her paintings of landscapes, birds, and flowers.

“Sometimes, the entire landscape envelopes me; other times, I’m caught up in the intricacy of the flower details,” Breiman shared in a press release. “Painting both makes my heart sing.”

She has won several awards from Camelback Gallery and the Arizona Art Alliance, is a juried member of the Sonoran Arts League, and is an active member of the AZ Art Alliance and Arizona Artists Guild.

Hansegard uses bold linework and large color fields. She creates transparent, watery layers of paint on top of graphite, charcoal, and pastel textures.

“Duality has become a recurring theme in my work, as I explore contrasts and how light illuminates through darkness,” Hansegard stated.

She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from ASU and began painting abstract works in 2016. Hansegard is currently a member of the Sonoran Art League, and has previously exhibited at Mood Room Gallery, {9} Gallery, Portland on the Park, and Shemer Art Center.

A First Friday reception will go from 6 to 9 p.m. June 7.

The Olney Gallery is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, and Fridays by appointment.
