Arrest made in fatal Glendale shooting

Posted

Glendale police arrested 35-year-old Lionel Aaron Begay for allegedly shooting and killing 44-year-old Mike Ohure.

On Sunday, March 13, just before 2 p.m., Glendale police responded to a shooting near the 8200 block of N. 59th Avenue. While officers were en route, Glendale police received a call of a vehicle collision at 59th and Peoria Avenues, that was related to the original call.

Officers responded to the collision and found Ohure, a Glendale resident who had been shot multiple times. Ohure was transported to a local hospital where he later died from injuries he received during the shooting.

Officers discovered Ohure previously knew Begay and was allowing Begay to stay at his residence, investigators say. Begay allegedly got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend in front of the home and he pulled out a handgun. Ohure tried to intervene and was shot multiple times by Begay, according to police.

Begay went back into the house, and Ohure had friends take him to a hospital but they got into the collision while en route. Begay left the home prior to police arrival.

Officers later located him in the neighborhood and took him into custody

Begay was arrested and is charged with second-degree murder and other weapons charges.
