The slaying occurred about 3:40 a.m. Nov. 7 in the 2000 block of West Hadley Street.

Details from a 9-1-1 call stated the man calling into police wanted to report he had killed his girlfriend. When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted Jeffrey Rael, 47, and took him into custody without incident, according to a release.

“While checking the residence, officers located an adult female suffering from multiple injuries consistent with a sharp-bladed instrument,” the release stated.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rael was taken to a hospital where he was treated and later released.

Detectives have taken over the investigation and booked Rael into Maricopa County Jail for first-degree murder.

Details of what led to the killing are part of an investigation, police said.
