Officers responded about 11:35 a.m. Dec. 27 for an unrelated call near 28th and Larkspur drives.
Officers were ending their call when the man began yelling at them, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
“As the officers returned to their vehicles, the man confronted the officers armed with a handgun, this is when the officer-involved shooting occurred,” the release stated.
The man fled north on 28th Drive a short distance before falling to the ground from his injury. Officers began rendering aid, and Phoenix Fire Department personnel to him to a hospital, police said, adding that he had non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is being conducted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division.
