Arizona’s years-long teacher shortage is likely to continue into the summer, according to education experts from across the state.
The coronavirus pandemic shuttered schools and shifted learning to a virtual setting for nearly a year in most Valley schools, exacerbating the issue presented by a lack of teachers for an growing population. Summer school likely will see increased need this year.
“The teacher shortage in Arizona is a long-standing problem that the pandemic has only further exposed and widened,” said Arizona Department of Education spokeswoman Morgan Dick. “While it is impossible to predict with certainty, we expect the teacher shortage to persist through the summer.”
