Arizona students took a hit when it came to learning during the pandemic so far, and it may take several years to correct that slide.
The state is putting roughly $19 million into corrective action to help students recover the learning undone first when many Arizona schools shuttered in March 2020 and through myriad separate school district decisions regarding whether schools were in person or virtual as districts adapted on the fly.
Maricopa County Superintendent Steve Watson said the learning recovery from pandemic-inspired disruptions could take several years to unwind, but districts likely will be able to help those students recover.
