Arizona heat wave prompts utility officials' call for customers' help

While the relentless, record-breaking heatwave continues throughout the desert Southwest and elsewhere, Arizona’s power providers are asking for help to reduce energy consumption, while some residents are crying foul.

Weather experts have called this not just an unusually hot summer — but one of the hottest ever measured, as evidenced by temperatures observed last month.

“The relentless global heat continued as average surface temperature on Earth in July 2020 was the second warmest on record. These monthly posts might be beginning to sound as repetitive as a broken record. But then again, global temperature records continue to be broken, so repetitiveness is probably apropos,” stated Tom Di Liberto, a meteorologist with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration in an Aug. 17 post at the organization’s website: noaa.gov.
