Arizona added 2,519 and 2,392 cases over the previous two days, each a daily high at the time.

The numbers of cases per 100,000 residents in the state is 641 as of Friday, using 2019 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Maricopa County is below that at 580. Navajo and Apache counties have rates of 2,640 and 2,925 per 100,000 residents, respectively. Santa Cruz County, at 2,781 cases per 100,000 residents, has now joined those two counties as the only ones above 2,000 cases per 100,000 residents.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
