Arizona tops 28,000 cases of coronavirus

The Arizona Department of Health Services is reporting 28,296 cases and 1,070 deaths in the state, up 618 and 23 from Monday, respectively.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health reports 13,883 cases and 470 deaths in Arizona’s most populous county.

The numbers of cases per 100,000 residents in the state is 389 as of Tuesday, using 2019 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Maricopa County is below that at 320. Navajo and Apache counties have rates of 2,031 and 2,430 per 100,000 residents, respectively, the only ones above 2,000 in Arizona — Santa Cruz is next at 1,361.
