Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announces she will not run for reelection

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced Tuesday she will not run for re-election  in 2024.

Sinema, who was elected as a Democrat and as the first openly bisexual senator in 2018 but switched to independent in 2022, was falling behind in the three-way Senate race between herself,  Democrat Ruben Gallego, and Republican Kari Lake.

In the video statement on the social media platform X, Sinema reiterated her love for the state of Arizona and  blamed partisanship for putting an end to her time as Senator.
