Arizona official asks for urgency in Rio Verde water solution

EPCOR application seeks to provide water to Rio Verde, but process may be slow

An elected member of Arizona’s House of Representatives is asking the state’s corporation commission to move swiftly in an attempt to rectify water needs in the Rio Verde Foothills community.

On Jan. 25, Legislative District Rep. David Cook, R-Globe, issued a letter to the Arizona Corporation Commission in an attempt to expedite an EPCOR application that seeks to provide water to the Rio Verde area.

On Jan. 1, about 500 homes in Rio Verde, a residential community outside of Scottsdale municipal boundaries, lost their rights to Scottsdale’s water department because of drought mitigation efforts. Since 2016, Rio Verde residents had been hauling water from a Scottsdale-owned water standpoint at north Pima and east Jomax roads.
