Arizona now reporting COVID-19 breakthrough cases, deaths

Officials urge residents to get boosted

The Arizona Department of Health Services is extending its commitment to keeping the public updated on COVID-19 data by including cases of breakthrough infections.

ADHS, as of Dec. 8, began reporting the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in those who are vaccinated against the infectious disease.

The first report, which will be updated every two weeks, showed that in October, unvaccinated people in Arizona were 3.9 times more likely to test positive for COVID-19 and at a 15.2 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19 compared with those fully vaccinated with one of the three approved vaccines.
