Thanks to the voter-passed initiative Prop 206, a happy new year is coming for some Arizona workers as the state’s minimum wage is set to rise again — this time to $12.15 per hour.
Passage of the Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act — which Arizona voters approved by a 52%-48% margin in November 2016 — set in motion a series of increases to raise Arizona wages above that of the federal minimum, which has remained at $7.25 per hour since 2009.
Analysis conducted by the Arizona Legislature in 2016 found more than 700,000 workers in the state were making less than $12 per hour in 2015.
