Arizona lawmakers rally around Sen. Kelly after Hegseth censure call

Arizona’s congressional delegation of Democrats is rallying around Sen. Mark Kelly after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called for his censure and potential demotion of military rank after Kelly and other lawmakers made a public statement encouraging members of the military to ignore illegal orders.

In November, Kelly and 5 other democratic members in congress with military backgrounds — Sen. Elissa Slotkin from Michigan who gave the democratic response to President Trump’s address to Congress in March, and House Representatives from Jason Crow, D-Colo., Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan, D-Penn., and Maggie Goodlander D-N.H. — appeared in a video telling current military members they did not have to follow unlawful orders.

“Our laws are clear: you can refuse illegal orders,” the six congressional representatives said in a video posted to Instagram and other social media sites in November.
