Arizonans voted to legalize marijuana this past election year, setting in motion a series of changes that will unfold in the state by April, if not much earlier.
The state already has received several dozen applications for recreational marijuana dispensaries, and the Arizona Department of Health Services has begun the process of going through them all.
"ADHS has received 61 applications since we began accepting them early yesterday, and we are in the process of reviewing them. We've communicated to the industry that we have the systems and processes necessary to approve properly completed applications expeditiously,” said Steve Elliott, ADHS communications director.
