Arizona holiday traffic enforcement sees less DUIs amid significantly less stops

The various holiday traffic enforcements by local and state police saw declines in the number of DUIs and other infractions this year at the same time officers conducted less than half the number of stops they did two years ago.

The 2025 enforcments, conducted over every weekend in December including five days around Christmas, reported 18,263 total traffic stops, according to the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

That compares with 37,400 stops in 2023 and 29,664 in 2024, according to the data.

The various holiday traffic enforcements by local and state police saw declines in the number of DUIs and other infractions this year at the same time officers conducted less than half the number of stops they did two years ago.

The 2025 enforcments, conducted over every weekend in December including five days around Christmas, reported 18,263 total traffic stops, according to the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

That compares with 37,400 stops in 2023 and 29,664 in 2024, according to the data.

Overall, the report showed that significantly less officers took part in the enforcement in 2025 compared with either 2023 or 2024, with 4,217 law enforcement personal part of the effort in December compared with 9,653 in 2023.

DUI arrests number 1,084 statewide during the enforcement in 2025 compared with 1,550 in 2023 and 1,354 in 2024.

The data focused on various other categories, from distracted driving to seat belt violations to criminal and civil speeding violations.
