DATA DRIVEN

Arizona flu numbers decline in March

As record heat makes it way to the Valley of the Sun, the last thing you may be thinking about is fighting the flu.

But it’s important to stay vigilant even as Arizona is emerging from a severe and unusually early influenza season. New data from early-to-mid March 2026 shows declining case numbers following months of intense viral activity.

Health officials report that the 2025–26 flu season was marked by a sharp surge beginning in late December 2025, when influenza activity jumped by more than 35% in a single week. Elevated case levels persisted through early January 2026, creating one of the most intense early-season waves in recent years.
