Arizona experts urge influenza vaccination in October

Maricopa County leaders eye $7 million in flu season funding

As the annual influenza season commences — the novel coronavirus crisis continues — public health officials and county leaders are urging residents to get their flu shots sooner than later.

County health officials last week issued a release encouraging vaccinations, and county leaders today will consider funding for partnerships to bolster vaccinations across the Valley.

“Now is the time to get your flu vaccine,” said Marcy Flanagan, executive director of Maricopa County Public Health in an Oct. 13 press release. “Your body takes two weeks to develop antibodies after getting the flu shot. Even though we normally see a peak around January, our flu season can start as early as November. We encourage folks to get their flu shot now to prevent illness later.”
