Arizona elections chief fights Trump administration over voter records

PHOENIX - Secretary of State Adrian Fontes wants a federal judge to throw out efforts by the Trump administration to force him to turn over voter registration and election records.

In a new court filing, Fontes says some of what is in those records is public, things like names, addresses and party affiliation. Those are things that pretty much anyone can access.

But he said much of the information demanded by the Department of Justice is protected by state privacy laws. That includes any part of a voter's social security number, driver's license number, mother's maiden name, the state or county of birth, an email address and signature.
