Arizona celebrates VCP Glendale project for homeless vets

Village's support crosses political, state boundaries

A major nonprofit housing project for homeless veterans like VCP Glendale does not become a reality based simply on a one-to-one connection or a unity of purpose among two groups.

But the 2022 visit by Mayor Jerry Weiers and several council members to Veterans Community Project’s Kansas City, Mo., headquarters lit the spark for a transitional housing village to come to life fairly quickly. Less than three years later VCP leadership and most of the Glendale City Council broke ground on VCP Glendale, a short walk south of VFW Post 1433.

About 300 people showed up for the Feb. 1 groundbreaking and Weiers said he’s worked alongside or gotten to know most of them.
