Arizona avoids brunt of record flu season so far

State has had below average year so far

Though the country is experiencing the worst flu seasons in decades, Arizona has avoided the brunt of it so far.

Data from the Arizona Department of Health Services shows this year’s flu activity in the Grand Canyon State paling in comparison to the last two flu seasons, which were particularly bad, and below the state’s five-year average.

During the week of Christmas, Arizona rose to the lowest rung of the “high” flu activity classification by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Infection but was downgraded back to the highest rung of the “moderate” classification during the week of New Year’s Day.
